Do Something Fun Every Day Your life is not supposed to be boring. Get a hobby. Take up gardening and grow some plants or weeds. Become a painter or a musician. Learn to type and write that book you’ve always dreamed of writing. Watch old Star Trek or I Love Lucy reruns.

Keep Learning You’re never too old to learn something new. Read a good book. Learn a new language or HTML. Research on the internet topics you always wished you knew more about. Don’t let your mind wither like the mouldy bag of potatoes under your kitchen sink.

Exercise Get off your butt. You didn’t work this hard in life to become a slouch. Go walking, take up roller blading or buy a bicycle and learn to ride again. Work out at a local gym or join a water aerobics class and be daring enough to wear Speedo’s. Exercising will keep your muscles toned and all your body parts from falling off.

Keep a Social Calendar You’ll grow old living in your living room with Regis and his millionaire wannabee guests. Get out and make new friends. Play Bingo. Take up karaoke. Join the morning chat group at your local Target Stores cafeteria.

Volunteer Volunteer for a community organization or association like Hospice. Volunteer to teach young children how to read. Mentor a wayward teen (maybe your own.) Volunteer to be on the committee at church who bakes those great macaroni and tuna casseroles with crunched up potato chips on top.

Leave a Record Your children, grandchildren and your future generations will wonder who you were after you are gone. Leave them a record. Keep a journal or tape record your favorite stories of your youth. (Even the true ones.) Gather your photos and organize them in scrapbooks. List the people in the photos while your memory holds out.

Clean out Your Closets Donate the clothes that you wore in high school to a local thrift store. Teenagers are wearing them again and could use the discount.

Buy a Convertible One of the joys of mid life is you don’t have to worry about your hair getting messed up since you probably haven’t any left.  Take the roof down and go joy riding. When you pull up to a stop light crank up your radio a little louder than is necessary.

Admire your Roy Rogers’s Paraphernalia

Half Sing, Half Hum The words to songs from the Dead, Beach Boys, Marty Robins, Ed Ames, Roger Whittaker, Burl Ives, Peter - Paul & Mary, Simon & Garfunkel and the Stones.
